Artist Statement: For this project, I hade to create a piece/sculpture that represented the concept of duality. Duality explains when things are different, but go together. It was very hard for me to come up with an idea for this project because the concept was so hard to understand but I finally came up with the idea to make a wall piece of a fish, which represent the water and the sea, but paint a tree on the fish, which represents the ground and land.
My first step of this project was coming up with idea and making my sketch. This was arguably the hardest part of the project just because the concept was so confusing. Once I had my sketch, I began making my fish out of clay making sure that it would be able to hang on the wall. This project was easier than previous projects because the design was relatively simple. After my fish was bisk fired, I glazed it painting a tree that reminded me of a willow tree and adding an eye to keep some of the fish design showing.
I like how my final product turned out but it is definitely not my best work or my favorite work. I think that if I were to do this again I would add some more details to the fish body and maybe spend some more time making my glaze more organized and realistic. Overall, it was interesting exploring this concept and definitely made me think more about things in life that fit so well together but are so different at the same time.
