Artist Statement:

For this assignment, I had to find or make three different foods or meals and take three pictures of them each. At first, I found this challenging because I just couldn’t think of any good foods to take pictures of. The first thing I thought of was a charcuterie board because I have seen a lot of pictures online of charcuterie boards and I think they look really cool. The second thing I thought of was waffles. I found them in my freezer and I thought I could get a really cool picture of syrup pouring into the waffles. Lastly, I thought of a bagel because I was having it for breakfast and I love bagels.

To capture these photos, I really had to think about the lighting because, in food pictures, I think the lighting is one of the most important parts that make it really strong. For each of my photos, I used natural lighting because I knew my kitchen lighting would not make it very strong. For my waffle and bagel photos, I actually went outside and set them in the snow. For my final touches, I enhanced the photos by bringing up the brightness and made a few more edits to make them look brighter and better.

I really enjoyed this project because I have never done anything like it before. It was a fun challenge to try and capture food and use different elements like composition and lighting to make the best final result that I could. I think my favorite one from this project is the waffles because I love how the syrup looks being poured on top. I do also really like the charcuterie board because there are many different types of foods in it.
