Dear Families,
As we begin the new school year, I wanted to share a few of the programs that will support our students’ personal, social-emotional, and spiritual growth. These programs will be incorporated into students’ monthly guidance lessons, which take place in their classroom.
Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe – Grades K–8
Beginning in September, students will participate in Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe, an age-appropriate child abuse prevention program. Students will learn how to recognize safe and trusted adults and how to speak up when they have a concern. We encourage families to continue this conversation at home by asking your child who they identify as a safe adult.
For more information: www.childhelp.org/SpeakUpBeSafe
Signs of Suicide (SOS) – Grades 6–8
For the sixth year, we will continue the Archdiocese’s Signs of Suicide (SOS) program. Through two age-appropriate lessons, students learn to recognize signs of suicide risk and how to ACT: Acknowledge, Care, and Tell a trusted adult. Students will participate in guided discussions and have an opportunity to request support from a teacher or counselor if needed.
For more information: www.sossignsofsuicide.org/parent
Social-Emotional Learning – Grades K–8
Students in grades K–3 will continue with Friendzy, a faith-based program that develops skills for healthy relationships, emotional regulation, empathy, and positive character.
Students in grade 4 will start a new program called Virtues in Practice. The program highlights 81 different saints (three per virtue) to serve as real-life role models of Christian character. Students use role-playing and monthly projects to practice acting out virtues in real-life situations.
Students in grades 5–8 will explore Virtue=Strength, which helps students understand and practice virtues that build strong character and healthy relationships. Lessons connect Catholic values to real-life situations and encourage students to make choices that help them become the best version of themselves.
If you have questions about any of these programs or would like to opt your child out of participation, please contact me directly at aarmstrong@stgabriel.net.
Have a wonderful school year!

School Counselor
Our Natural Playpark will undergo a refresh this school year. Our first phase includes the installation of a Double Slide and a Tree Climber (rendering to the right). Preschool was awarded a Thrive by 5 grant to purchase the double slide. PTSO and 2025 Gala funds will be used for the climber. Additional updates will continue over the next 18 months as weather allows for sod and tree planting and removal. If you would like to help, contact awolz@stgabriel.net.
Are you planning to volunteer or attend a school event this year?
Field Trip chaperones and special event volunteers need to have a background check on file and have attended the Safe Environment Training. For more information, visit https://www.stgabriel.net/background. Not sure if we have your information? Contact background@stgabriel.net. To view upcoming Honor Thy Child trainings, visit https://www.archlou.org/about-the-archdiocese/archdiocesan-policies-guidelines-and-handbooks/restoringtrust/safe/. Background checks and safe environment training refresher must be completed every five years.
Thank you to those of you who attended our Mock Schedule Night. In case you were not able to make it, please see slideshow for overview of updates and reminders for this year. Feel free to contact your child's teacher if more information regarding specific classes is needed.

Any staff member can recognize a student for outstanding behavior, acts of kindness, or celebrations by giving them a paw print. Students bring the paw print to the school office to be entered into a weekly drawing for a stuffed leopard head. Winners will be announced on Monday morning announcements. Paw prints will be displayed for the trimester in the lobby and hallways. This is a great way to celebrate the great things our students are doing!
In May, Father Jason challenged the students to pray daily over the summer. He also created categories to focus the prayer and a tracking sheet available at http://www.stgabriel.net/prayer. Students should turn in completed forms to the school office. Twelve lucky students will be drawn to receive a special lunch paid for by an anoymous donor. To be entered into the drawing, please return forms by September 4.
Our payment policies require all families to have a payment account set up in FACTs that will allow payments to process automatically when scheduled. This is also necessary to allow FACTs to be able to process any payment penalties or fees they may charge (such as the annual enrollment fee). If your payment account is not valid for automatic payments, you will be reminded by the finance office to update your payment information within 5 business days. Please also note that your automatic payments begin to process in FACTS before 10:00 am the day BEFORE your payment is due. If you prefer to make a payment online yourself, please be sure to do so at least 2 days before the payment due date. Once the automatic payment begins to process we will not be able to cancel or stop it from going through. Please refer to our Tuition Payment Policies for more information.
We've put together a Schoology Family Guide to help parents/ guardians get started using Schoology. Eevery grade has a "Class of" course where teachers will post homework, resources, links, and photos. This course will follow the students from year to year and provide a one stop shop for key information.
Did you know? The parent portal section of the school website provides direct links to the websites you use most for school information. Also, we've added a new feature to our website. There is now an AI chat assistant available to help visitors more quickly locate information about our school, preschool, parish, and music academy.

Thank you to our families for working with us during carpool. Here are some friendly reminders to keep everyone safe and things moving as quickly as possible:
As you enter for morning arrival, please make two lanes in front of play park. Left lane is for preschool drop-off; right lane is for K-8.
Please drive slowly, especially in the back by the play park.
If you are picking up a preschool student, please make sure that you are checked in before leaving your car to do so.
Please pull all the way up to the cones and pull in close to one another so we can maximize our space.
Make sure to use the app or at least have your number readily available.
If you are in wave 2, patiently remain in your car. Students are not allowed passed the cones.
Please follow directions of staff politely.
Bingo is one of our largest fundraisers. The bingo minisitry funds our school financial aid program first and foremost, in addition to capital improvement projects like air conditioning unit replacement and classroom renovations. Bingo supplies over $150,000 in aid that is awarded directly to school families. Volunteers are critical to the bingo operation. A schedule for this year has been created to assist with staffing volunteers to sell pull tabs. If you volunteer, your child may have a uniform break the next non-mass day! Also, all the volunteers will be entered into a drawing to win a popcorn party for your child's homeroom! Please sign up using Sign Up Genius link below. Thank you for your support!

What is Girls on the Run?
Girls on the Run is a ten-week after school program that combines physical activity with inspiring, fun lessons that teach girls how to handle the difficult social pressures of adolescence. Girls on the Run provides girls with the tools they need to become strong, confident, healthy young women who make good choices. The curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches who are also St. Gabriel staff members! The team meets twice a week for 10 weeks in a small group setting.
This is not a running club or competitive program. This program is for non-athletes and athletes alike!

The Church must reflect “one body in Christ,” where diversity of culture and language enriches, rather than divides, our communities.
This gathering seeks to: promote belonging over assimilation, foster encounter and transformation, listen to inform action, strengthen leadership accountability, and advance unity in worship and parish life.
Encuentro will take place on Saturday, September 19 from 8 am to 3:30pm at Holy Cross High School in Louisville.
