Letting Students Have A Say

Many students want to have greater say in their learning opportunities. Whether it’s a choice in assignment, longer recess, or a different elective they would like the opportunity to make a choice of their own. It’s important that students have choices in order to gain confidence in the ability to make a choice. They will one day have to choose the path they want to take after school but those choices will be difficult to make if they can’t make a decision. Also each student will one day have to speak up for themselves and that won’t happen if they don’t know how to. Letting them be heard will give them an opportunity to express themselves without fear of disapproval. This will strengthen their confidence and help them continue to believe in themselves.
