A school’s culture is important because it sets the tone of the school. The tone set determines how everyone interacts with each other. For a good school culture communication between everyone is key. Teachers, administrators, and parents need to be on the same page with everything. They need to meet the expectations of each other and keep up an atmosphere of teamwork. They need to know that they are valued members of the team that mission is to help children get a quality education. When the communication is good and everyone is happy schools run smoother and everyone, for the part, is happy. When communication is poor most people within the school is upset because the information is not getting to them when they need it.
Now, of course, good communication isn’t the only aspect of good school culture. It’s also important that everyone work together. When teachers, administrator, and parents don’t work together resentment can come into play. In any school culture resentment, just like most relationships, things can get tricky because it often leads to feelings getting hurt. However, the opposite is often true when everyone works together because everyone knows what going on and has a say in decisions.
When everyone is communicating and working together things in the school run better. Everyone has a more positive attitude about what happens within the school. This leads to everyone, hopefully, being happier. When all the adults are happier the students are happier which allows more learning which is really the goal anyway and what truly matters anyway.
