Far too many kids today are having to grow up fast as they deal with many adult issues. They are dealing with issues such as addiction, abuse of all forms, as well as mental health problems. Even one child having to deal with this is a problem but the fact that more and more are dealing with it is terrible.
The system meant to help is broken and has trouble keeping up with the demands of many children in their care. They do their best to help these kids but budget cuts and high caseloads allow for many to fall through the cracks. This is unacceptable and must come to an end ASAP as these kids do not deserve that. They did not ask to be brought into this world so do not deserve to be treated in such a way.
It’s important that all involved (the caseworker, parent, and or foster parent) have access to programs that help the family learn the tools needed to deal with conflict and mental health issues. Doing this will not completely solve the problem but it will help families break the generational cycle of abuse and addiction.
