We must keep in mind the importance of a student’s culture when they come into the classroom. Their culture is a large part of who they are and shapes their view of the world around them. It will shape the way they view you and education in general. If their parents see education as highly important they will likely be more engaged in the classroom. If the opposite is true they may feel it’s not worth it and give up. Their culture will also guide them in how they take in the content you are teaching them and approach the assignments they receive. If we don’t get to understand them and their culture we will never be able to truly reach them.
