Over the past few months, kids have had their life turned completely upside down. The COVID-19 outbreak had severely affected their social lives with the shutdown of schools, extra curricular activities, and gatherings of any kind. It has made them start learning in ways they may not be used to. It has stopped them from seeing loved ones they care about. These changes have had an impact on many kids causing them to be scared, depressed, and angry.
These emotions can be difficult for kids to handle so we must be careful to help see them through these challenging times. Talking to them about what they are feeling and listening to them when they need to vent is a start. We must not deny them their feelings nor dismiss the things they might be scared about. If possible they need to still be in contact with classmates, friends, educators, and family that lives outside of the home. Knowing those they care about are safe can be of comfort to them. Family time can also be helpful especially when outside time is involved.
