A new world record (not for long, sorry)

 

First of all: Matt made a new world record at "Special by Xinfe" (!), you can download the race here.

And I have posted a new video at YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSLBmZbZdBM&fmt=18

You can see my best race at Alpine Hard on the left route, in the background Oleg's best race on the world record route, both races in exactly the same time: 1.12.40. You can also see a lot of additional landmarks which don't belong to the original track, but help me and you to find and see the best route.

You can download both 1.12.40 races at www.supreme-snowboarding.tk in the "Hall of Fame" (to find my 1.12.40 race, click "sorted by date").

Perhaps you are interested in a package with folders for all world record races and your own best races. Please use only the track names in this package: http://ssb.bplaced.net/folders_for_races.rar.

The Supreme Snowboarding 1.035A is currently in beta testing stage...

I have to check the compatibility with mk's installers and so on (One thing must already be unaccurate : text entries in the main menu as I have edited one). The changelog is quite impressive.

Then, I will have to create a real installer with reg entries.

Everything is my own work, but I would like to integrate mk's fast luncher as default Supreme.exe. Display_config would be lunched at the end on the install process.

So, still some work ahead, but not that much compared to what I have done. I might also work on an optimized version of Special Tracks Installer.

I will finish my track on this version : it will be a relevent testing.

Here is my result of converting Alpine_Easy.bin to BMP file (the BMP file format was taken from Wikipedia). What it could be?

To my special track:

Looking at Mogul Slope, Alpine Medium/Hard v2, it is completely unrealistic, like my special track, my special track could be an 'extra' like that.

What a nice picture. I vote 5 points. You are a strong competitor for your wife.

Matt, you listed 4 world records, which is obviously not 5. And you posted the same content twice.

You can be happy that there is summer in Europe! We are now more interested in holidays, sun, water, beachball. However, your world records will be smashed. Later.

You are right that some tracks are not realistic. However, you can fall wherever you want on these tracks and continue without problem. This is not possible at your track (I have sent you a video). And I agree with what Xinfe already said above.

I haven't configured the AI paths, once you configure that it should go fine. I admit the landscape is random, it is after all my first attempt of a special track. I'll think I'll stick with conquering other special tracks, and leave the making for the pros.

For the image, I guess that some unwrapping is needed. For exemple, when there is a gradient from color A to B, and restarts from A to B, I guess that the first B and the second A are neraly the same value. It's a king of "Out of bounds loop" if you see what I mean.

When I am back, I'll try to create some bin files for Oleg.

I didn't understand anything about gradients...

I would like to know any details of the game, inculding the algorithm of converting BIN to TGAs. To "convert" the BIN to BMP I just add the header with appropriate data (it includes h-size, v-size, full size of file and of image, amount of bits per pixel (32) etc. Then each "pixel" is 4 bytes of data from BIN file. Now I see that there are only several colors, but what do they mean? TGA file would be great instead.

Matt, you can expect an improved Object_Data.txt for your track until Friday. I have already fixed the safety splines and need some time to test everything. And I think I will also make the AI paths until Saturday and an installer until Sunday. And on Monday I will add your track to the Hall of Fame. The track is better than I thought!

New Decision

 

Hey Guys,

I left myself a hard decision, and I've decided to continue my special track creating career, but part-time, after all, I have to defend my newly claimed turf. :D

At the moment, I am making a pretty cool track, it will take time though, it is troublesome trying to make it realistic. Wish me luck!

I am looking forward to the outcomes of these new-coming tracks as well, should be great!

One problem that should be addressed:

HOW DO I CHANGE THE GROUND TEXTURE?? I have a spot of ice slicing through a vital part of my track, and is very annoying. How do I change it? It is very annoying. Removing soil would help, but is not vital.

To Xinfe,

Nice work for all the work you've been doing! The tutorial is very helpful. :up: If you had any replays I would make videos for you, but unfortunately, you don't. Time to start! :D Also, the link to my Hall of Fame goes to the long URL, my new URL is mattslee.tk thanks to Oleg.

In the meantime the corresponding key (x,y, or z), what is the corresponding key? I have objects to change.

My Other Special Track:

I was thinking of a cool name for it, what about the Hurricane Horror by Matt, or the Hurricane Zone by Matt, Danger Zone by Matt etc.

Simple example : Alpine Easy

Start the editor (AJA E), go to material editing (F7 and F5), and press Backspace : it will rewrite the original TGA files used for the land materials. Please notice that the original TGA files are about 10MB, and the three Material_Map.binX are less than 3MB (for the group, not each). So, good thing to lighten tracks.

About DeJogg training track : nice track ! Really nice track. there are some little mistakes, but nothing really troubling. I have created a map for this track. It's quite ugly because I haven't reworked it, but it's still better than the original one. Here is the link.

Nice modification for the Forest tracks. I'll wait till the official release to test them more deeply.

If you want to paint something other than snow, erase any previous material (to get snow), and change the brush to "paint" mode.

Draw you new material, save, remove the material_map.binX and reload. It should work.

For a custom banner, you have to create a 256x256px jpg file. Drop it in the folder objects/banner_texture.

To finish, edit /General/Object_Classes.txt, and add at the end :

The original Village Easy has 33 AI paths, your track would replace Village Easy because it is based on it, and so I need 33 challenging AI paths, and the most should be without any fall. But it is very, very difficult to finish races at your track without fall. I would need many hours, or even half a day! So I cannot do it. You have to make it if it ever shall be a race track for the Full version. Good luck.

Ok... that will take a VERY long time. Couldn't you save .dat files as AI paths? If so we could just send in 5 replays each without fall. I'll hop to this daunting task as soon as possible.

Bad & Good News

 

Hi Matt and Xinfe,

I have decided to NOT make a banner for Matt.

Because all banners have to be defined in the file Object_Classes.txt in the folder \Data\General. But a modified Object_Classes.txt is already in nearly all of my official installers, and I would have to change all installers. That's not what I want.

Xinfe, you told Matt to overwrite your Xinfe logo with Matt's banner. idx = 24; is already defined, that's your own logo at "Special by Xinfe". So Matt cannot use it.

I ask both of you to use the objects only which are already defined. And I'd like to ask all of you to not change anything in the file Object_Classes.txt, to avoid confusion and crashes.

"Practice by DeJogg" can now be used as Practice, Air and Race track. I have finished the bug-fixes and the AI paths, the package in on my new Updates page: http://ssb.bplaced.net/update.htm

The current version of "Special by Matt Village" will be online on Sunday. Matt, it is not possible to save race dat files as AI paths.

I found that out when I crashed the game :noob:

I am not doing anything towards my old special track... for the moment anyway. I am paying more attention to 'Survivor' by Matt. It is nearly ready for beta-testing. By the end of the week I should be able to produce it, keeping in mind I do test the realism a bit, but not to an extent. I'll keep you posted.

Matt, are you a little bit blind?

What do you think: Why am I working at "Practice by Dejogg"? Why do I post a new Object_Data.txt for "Practice by Dejogg" at http://ssb.bplaced.net/update.htm?

You don't have to change anything in the Object_Data.txt. Just download my updates. Of course with a new Checkpoint 2. And with many more improvements. The new official Object_Data.txt for "Practice by Dejogg" is on my Udates page.

I have also removed 2 of 3 Finish lines. If you have already saved races at "Practice by Dejogg", you can now delete them, because you crossed the wrong Finish line.

An information to all who have DeJogg's files:

DeJogg created new big tga files for Forest Easy, to be copied to the Forest Easy folder. Later you can restore the original Object_Data.txt and height_delta.bin of Forest Easy, but the big tga files are still there! These big tga files probably change something at Forest Easy. So far I cannot see what, but please be careful and don't forget: A Forest Easy with additional tga files in the Forest Easy folder is NOT the same as the original Forest Easy without tga files! It is a different track, even if you don't see the difference.

I also have to check DeJogg's modification of Forest Medium. There could be a similar problem at Forest Medium.

Why do you have Object_Classes in each installer. Just the addon needs it

The Idx is a mistake : it was not intended to overwrite my banner. Idx 25 is fine then.

The original file IS buggy and creates crashes. If Matt's banner is available before I release the 1.035A version, it will be included. I still have some things to fix (about Display_Config) : the dropdown boxes are messed up. So we can't see anymore the entries.
