Simple mod

Added 'hudmod.zip' to my available downloads.

Simple modification to HUD_Config.txt file to move the in-game status displays further into the upper corners in order to increase the 'game view'.

Working on method to move/resize the jump/flip/spin display to do the same thing.

Tried the demo, it did not work either. Had a buddy try the game on his systems, one better and one not as good as mine, and it worked fine. Is there someplace I can download the full version. I known it would be a 'hack/crack' version, which might work. Since I payed for and have in may possession a non-functional version, a working copy should not be too much to ask for.

UPDATE/EDIT: Here is a direct link for the www.ShareReactor.com to the Boarder Zone page: http://www.sharereactor.com/release.php?id=3238

OKAY... This is for everyone who wants to get the full version of the game. btw, this is how I got the game since no stores sell it anymore.

1. Goto www.overnet.com and download the program. This is a P2P program just to let you know. Dont worry about fakes, b/c there is a web-site that you can automatically add checked files to your download queue that ARE NOT fake. This is the best P2P out there, way better than Kazaa and its reputation of massive amounts of fakes lol.

2. Familiarize yourself with the program, get used to it and if you have a firewall, configure it with the program (check below for configuration). If you see something that says "firewalled" at the bottom-left of the program window, then it is not configured properly. If it says "open" then your okay.

3. We are now going to the web-site to get the file to add to your downloads. The size of the file is about 273MB, so it may take some time for you dial-up users like myself lol. The name of the site is www.sharereactor.com -- goto the search tab at the top and search for, you guessed it, "Boarder Zone". Click on the apropriate link (Boarder Zone - PC Games). You will see the download link at the bottom of the page. Click on it and it will automatically add the Boarder Zone to your download queue in Overnet. Make sure that Overnet is running when you do this.

4. After the download, UnRAR the file to a temporary directory (WinRAR is recommended for this) the file is in standard ISO format which can be burned via Nero, CDRWin, PhantomCD, among others.

For you firewalled users using Overnet:

Make sure your firewall is configured with these rules:

TCP inbound/outbound/any IP: Ports 4661. 4662, 80

UDP inbound/outbound/any IP: Port 11372, 80

I use Norton Personal Firewall 2003 and it works fine with this configuration. If you have this firewall, a pop-up window may come-up upon initial startup saying "A remote service trying to access your computer" or something like that, permit this rule and check "always use this action".

If you have BlackICE firewall, make sure that "Enable File Sharing" IS ENABLED.

If this doesnt help, then goto the forums in www.overnet.com -- they have extensive information with configuring various routers, gateways and such.

Enjoy!

btw, this is where I got the game (today) and it works great for me.

WinXP SP1

512 MB PC100 SDRAM

ATA/100 40GB -- ATA/66 20GB

GeForce4 420MX PCI 64MB

SB Live! 5.1

Gravis Eliminator Shock USB

One last thing. IS THERE ANYWAY I CAN CUSTOMIZE MY CONTROLLER SETTINGS? SOME OF YOU SOUND PRETTY KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THE GAME, SO IT WOULD BE KICK ARSE IS SOMEONE CAN HELP!!!

Thanks in advance :D

You are wrong sir. I have a version that I downloaded and it runs smooth as silk. Check my previous post, follow the instructions, and you will find that it works fine too :)

And you are right, as I found out now: There is a way to run a full version without the original cd. And the key is a modified Display_Config.exe.

In the meantime my Alpine Easy world record is 1:33:79.

You do not need the modified Display_Config.exe if running win98.

All that you need to do is copy the ...\Data\Music and the ...\Data\Anims directories from the CD to the root directory of any hard drive or partition.

For example, having c:\Data\Anims and c:\Data\Music directories with their files will allow you to run without the CD.

It works for me.

Tested it under XP, copied the data dir to C:\, and the game was playable without cd-rom.

Jump Power mod

It's a long time since i messed around with the jump force parameter, but adding a few zeros means that you can jump from one end of a level to the other. Not much use for game play but good fun none the less.

It does help to make the gap when going off-piste down the middle of the village medium.

BTW - I now have Transworld Snowboarding for my Xbox - more boardslides than a really boardslidey thing. I suspect that's where most of the development work has gone recently.

With regards to the 'jump force parameter', do you have any information on the other parameters of the player configuration file that might be of intrest?

Is there a way to change the joystick axis controls in BoarderZone?

There is some partial 'code' in the game executable for joystick configuration but it was not completed prior to the release of the game.

I have been playing around with the code in order to implement some of the unfinished options and found some references to configurating the joystick and even using a mouse as a controller.

I have not been able to get the reconfiguation aspect working but I think you could probably 'recode' the game to swap the 'axis controls' but it will require a bit of hacking.

I just got Visual Studio 6 Pro, but I dont have any programming base, let alone messing around with hex values,

If someone could figure something out for me that would be kick arse. Anyways I hope that someday Inforgrames will release some updates so they can please all of us t00ls. But, ya know it will probably never happen. Maybe they will make it open source.

btw, is there a way to increase the drawing distance of the landscape. My GPU is more than capable of drawing a much further distance. I hate watching mountains being drawn into existance when I am so close.

Try changing the visibility_cube_width parameter in the detail_config.txt file located in the ...\Data directory. I'm running mine at 500.

Hey,

Good to see that there are more peoples still playin this game!! I love it! .. been playin it for years!

Ik have a question aboout the controls... when i use the default controls i cant make a sharp turn left while holding forward..when i asign sharp turn to the space button it does work..Anyone any idea why this is??

I also read on the infogrames websites that it's possible to grind almost anything, i never saw this.. is this true?

Thanks for the new level and other added extra's guys!

See ya

grinding

It is hard to do any 'grinds' with the present track setups but I have accidentally done it on some of the fences (stone, 'dual' rail, etc.).

The way to make it easier is to add 'control points' around the fences to keep you on the fence.

These 'control points' are the objects that keep your character inside the half pipe runs and they only control the motion of the character up to a certian speed, that is, if the speed of the character is high enough, I do not know the exact value, the 'control points' will have no effect on the motion.

but how do you do it then.. Press a certain button or something??

I have some more questions for MK2705. How did you get so fast. I have downloaded your guides but i really cant keep up.. have you altered some of the values (like friction) to go faster?

Also, is it true that craig is faster then the others and is the salomon faster then the nidecker board?

I tried only two combinations of driver/board, and in fact the combination Keith/Salomon FRS is about 1.5 % (average) faster than the combination Akiko/Rossignol Pro.

In fact i took me lots of time to get such fast and to find all the "secret ways". This means: Of course I've made no changes in the settings - I prefer to play fair! What you have to do is to use the different keys (arrow keys, Ctrl and Shift) in the best way... I've got some helpful tips from two other Freaks, Oli and "akkico", that helped me a lot!

I think about writing a kind of manual. Do you want me to? Or to prefer to try it by yourself!!? Oh, you're welcome!

New version of Boarder Zone

I do and I dont like how its built right now.

So far I have to edit the files themselves in order to make the game really really fun like not falling on rocks.... set rocks to=0

Other things I d like to see.

A better editor......

Where the heck is the Supreme editor at I cant find it anywhere.

I want the editor to be TWO FOLD. either a point and click mod

where you can raise or lower the bar to give the degree angle of the mountain. So far I like the way I can do trick to hop over the fences and forget about the timer and roam freely downhill.

would be kinda cool/realistic if once at the bottom we had a choice

to ride up to the top and while riding seeing our recoded selves going down the slopes..... that would be cool instead of a non interactive score chart.

So far I am editing the game by hand and every now and then have to re install it all over again.

I recompile the images to make them smaller and run the game smoother.

Would a HTML cruncher program work on the game code ????

LOL!!! NOT!

My personal edited version of Boarder Zone looks like TRON ON CYBER HILL snow boarding in a world run by black lights that make everything glow in the dark hahahaha now only if he could squash a few baddies on the way down....

Also I d like to see hidden fun tracks for those who like to stray off course and free play it for a while....

BOARDER ZONE TRACKS

Could someone please if you made a custom track please zip it up and put it on Kazaa PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to see if I can add all the original tracks into one big file so the play time can be extended.

Also I like to go to areas that try to stop you and I like to squeeze through them or hop over them and continue my way.

I have one time abandoned the track and went WEST until the tiny map showed I was almost halfway acrross the screen! hahahahaha I was going over 200 !! Now only if Boarder Zone would show MPH speed and not the metric system.

Also I am try to totally mod the game and have the user look like a car.

I already moded one install where everything looked like from the movie TRON!!!!!

Hahahaha!

Have fun!

I believe the 'control points' being refered to are the really the 'fixplane_points'.

I have added some around several fences I have added to the practice track, one at each end. You have to 'jump' onto the fence from the opposite side of where you placed the 'fixplane_points'.

The announcer even comments when I do a 'railslide' and a 'railslide to fakie'.

I would like to see

I would like to work at infogrames also to help improve Boarder Zone but Like the gaming industry I am sure their IT computer Dept is lame.

Facts of USA industry they try to fire anyone making over 50k a year so they cant live on their own and a computer admin can only live in his car or a rat infested hole in the wall type apartment.

Seems the Homeland Security also is not fairing as well either.

Contractors are bidding cut throat prices so that only minimum wage types will get the jobs and any jobs taken will be the most undesireable in type of hours or so much is done that the job will break the IT camels back!

You can not get security this way! Contractors need to stay out of the USA govt. The way its going now you will have a govt agent on food stamps and will have top secret clearance and will make the same money as a burger flipper. My middle finger goes out to all you contract managers!

So much for programming for the love of computer games.

hey why not make the CEO and VP contract also?

any help from housemarque

Has anyone else contacted housemarque, the developers of the game, and gotten any informaton.

I have tried contacting several members of the game development team, as listed in the credits for the game, but my continued questioning has caused them to 'block' any further emails from me.

high hits

it is amazing the number of replies/views this thread is getting compared to the others in this topic.

i was wondering if this game ever had a dedicated thread as some of the others listed under 'Games'.

if it did, it is just another sign of how quickly infogrames drops interest in their game titles after release.

(did'nt this game only get to the market in december of 2000?)

How to be faster

I was asked how I could be so fast (http://people.freenet.de/mk2705/index.htm).

Try this:

Use the Shift or Ctrl button together with the arrow buttons. You need some time to find out what the effects are. For example: Press Shift + Arrow-down while you are flying. You will come down then with the back of your of your board, this will "speed you up".

fjguarino, do you plan an update of your Special track?

track update

i have been out-of-town for a while and thus have not had the chance to 'play' with the game.

i have been working on the 'special' track trying to correct some of the problems and add the 'safety paths'.

unfortunatly i corrupted the 'working copy' and lost all the modifications i had made. ( i think there might be a limit on the number of objects that can be used. )
