March 12, 2020 Board Meeting

Important notice to all St Joe Lions

Due to the current health scare in our country our weekly  Thursday meetings will be canceled until further notice.

Before we share information about our March 12, 2020 Board Meeting we would like to congradtulate the Saint Joseph High School Robotics Team, The Average Joes, for hosting the "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST)" District Robotics Competion last weekend. Teams from all across Michigan participated in the event. The St. Joseph Lions club is a sponser and supporter of the Average Joes. Many of our members volunteered to assist in this event which played to a packed house of spectators. The St. Joe team did not get off to a very good start but worked their way up to a spot in the semi-finals. In this event the St Joe Alliance defeated the Alliance team  who  consisted of the number one seed in the tournament and last year's World Champion team. This elevated  them to a spot in the final event. Unfortunately they did not persevere in the final and ended up in 2nd place, not bad since they started so far behind. We are all very proud of the hard work and dedication put in by these students and their mentors.

March 12, 2020 Board Meeting

Before the meeting, Lion Jim reminded us of the the upcoming St Patrick's Day and entertained us with some rousing Irish Drinking songs. Lion Jackie did a great job by proving "green" decoration on each table and a Pot of Gold for each Member.

After singing "America", saying the Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer and a satisfying lunch, Lion President Dave Offord called the meeting to order. It was announced that a quorum was present and we could continue with action on items. Lion Dave gave his president's report and reminded us of the upcomig District Converntion (WE HAVE SINCE LEARNED THE CONVENTED WAS POSTPONED BECAUS Of THE NATIONAL HEALTH CRISIS). Afer his report the secretary's report was approver and othe committee reports were presented.

Former Lion Jimmy Butt honored

Lion Darrin reported that unfortunately the April 16 events at ASABE to recognize the 50th anniversary of the building on Niles Road and a special tribute to former Lion Jimmy Butt have been postponed.  Lion Jimmy's plaque, however, has been installed on the building near the front entrance, and all are welcome to stop by at any time and enjoy it.

The plaque reads:  In Honor of J.L. "Jimmy" Butt

Jimmy provided outstanding leadership for 30 years as Executive Vice President (1956-1986) and Society President (1987-1988), oversaw construction of this ASABE Headquarters Building, practiced servant leadership, and established management practices that enhanced ASABE membership and financial viability.
