Clay (Play Dough)
2 c flour
1 c salt
2 t salad oil
2 t cream of tartar (or substitute with alum, alum works better)
2 c water
Mix dry ingredients in a saucepan. Add oil and water, mix well.
Set on medium heat and stir constantly as the mixture heats. When it becomes too heavy to move around, remove from heat.
Pour out on a flat surface and knead as soon as it is cool enough to handle.
If desired, knead in food coloring of your choice.
Store the mixture in a sealed plastic container in a cool place. Lasts several weeks.
