Old Fashioned Bread Pudding
Place in 1 1/2 qt baking dish...
3 cups soft bread crumbs (use 4 cups for firmer pudding)
Blend in...
2 c milk, scalded with 1/4 c butter
1/2 c sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon or nutmeg
1/2 seedless raisins
Place baking dish in pan of hot water (1" deep). Bake until silver knife inserted 1" from edge comes out clean. Serve warm, with or without hard sauce or cream.
Temperature: 350F (mod. oven)
Time: Bake 40 to 45 mins
Amount: 6 servings
Note from Colleen:
I don't place in water. Use casserole dish and bake 45 to 50 mins til brown edges. Serve with cream.Yum Yum.
Variations
Chocolate Bread Pudding
Follow recipe above except use 1/2 c semi-sweet chocolate pieces instead of raisins.Omit the spices.
Butterscotch Bread Pudding
Follow recipe above except use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
Date-and-Nut Bread Pudding
Follow recipe above except use 1/2 cup chopped dates and 1/4 cup broken nuts instead of the raisins.
