Below is an announcement by the Toledo Municipal Court regarding an available Standby Magistrate position.

STANDBY MAGISTRATE, Toledo Municipal Court


Toledo Municipal Court is accepting letters of interest and resumes for the position of Standby Magistrate to fill in as needed in the absence of the regularly scheduled Small Claims, Traffic or Housing Magistrate. Duties include conducting small claims proceedings as well as traffic and criminal proceedings, forcible entry and detainer proceedings and rent escrow proceedings. Dockets are conducted Monday through Friday either 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Scheduling is completed as far in advance as possible.


Applicants must be admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio and be in good standing with the Supreme Court of Ohio. A minimum of 4 years experience practicing law required. Experience in small claims, criminal cases, traffic cases, and landlord-tenant matters preferred. The Standby Magistrate may maintain a private practice but may not represent clients before the Toledo Municipal Court.
