Ingredients
6 cups Flour
3 tbsp Sugar
1 tbsp Salt
2 tbsp Shortening
2 packages Yeast
2 1/4 cups Water, 120-130 degrees
Preparation
Mix 3 1/2 cups of the flour, sugar, salt, shortening and yeast in a 4 quart bowl; add warm water. Mix well. Stir enough of the remaining flour, 1 cup at a time, to make dough easy to handle. Turn dough on lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl, turn greased side up. Cover and let rise in a warm place until double, 40-60 minutes. Punch down, divide in half; let rest 5 minutes. Roll into 2 loaves, let rise until doubled. Bake at 425 degrees 25 to 30 minutes until lightly brown.
