Nimble

No. of Players

Two

Equipment

A small linear board of square cells with the cells labeled with the positive integers, left to right, in sequence and some amount of stackable coins or counters are required to play.

History

??? Winning Ways?

Objective

When all of the counters or coins are on square 0 the game is over and the last player to place a counter there wins.

Play

The board can be setup at random, with any number of the counters (including 0 or 1) stacked at any cell on the board. To be fair, the player who sets up the board should allow the opponent to move first and two players should play an even number of games in this fashion, alternating who sets up the board each time. Players take turns picking up any one counter and moving to any position to it's left, towards cell 0. The counter may pass over some other counter(s) or move onto a cell already occupied by another counter or counters. When all of the counters or coins are on square 0 the game is over and the last player to place a counter there wins.

Strategy

This game is really just Nim in disguise and the mathematics that can be used to analyze Nim can be used to analyze it.

Variations

Silver Dollar(2) is the same game with the additional rule that does not allow counters to be stacked, creating much different play.
