PostIts (or paper cards) and pens
White Board or a White Board software (like Google's JamBoard) with a large display and laptop
If you think that this will be difficult for the students, arrange for at least one presently recognized leader to serve as a subject matter expert.
If a white board software is used, set up the display & laptop.
Pre-position the PostIts/cards and pens if you do not have someone to help distribute them during class.
Introduce what the class is doing and the process
Have students brainstorm qualities that the community needs to thrive on their own.
Collect cards/postits one at a time and put on the board. Students say/give the card that they like best. Collect from the class. Each time make sure that you get input from the class.
If there are ideas that are similar or related, then put the cards for these ideas closer to each other. If they are the same, put them next to each other.
If there is a "title" or "name" for the ideas/cards that are closer to each other, the facilitator writes it above the corresponding cards.
Name the most popular groups. Keep going around the students, asking for cards. Students may write a new card at any point.
Once all the cards are up on the board, make sure of the groupings and their names.
Ask the class if anyone they know exhibits many/all of these qualities.
If there is a panel, this might be a place where the class can ask them.
Class selects one person (or more) that should be commemorated.
Class reads the "Crafting Questions for your Radio Guests" above.
Using the same process above (steps 2-7), students brainstorm questions to ask.
Class chooses who is going to be the interviewer(s).
