Understand the roles of Eshini and Kakushini in Jodo Shinshu Buddhism
Memory game cards
Cards with names of all concepts covered throughout the year. The names/items are written on two cards.
Write a timeline on the whiteboard pertaining to the dates involved in the cards.
This lesson should be conducted after another lesson where the history of Eshinni and Kakushinni are explained.
Cards are taped randomly on white board so that the students cannot see the name. Alternatively, cards may be placed on a table face down.
Determine order of students to play
The "playing" student chooses one card, then another.
If a match occurs, student MUST also explain the meaning and place on basic time ine in JodoShinshu history. If the student cannot, then the cards are put back on the board. If the student does so successfully, then the student gets the cards/
If there is no match, then the "play" goes to the next student.
This goes until all the cards have been matched. If the teacher chooses to have a winner, then the student with the most pairs of cards is the winner.
Ask the students what was the most memorable card/name. Make sure to ask all the students.
We have a large bowl of prizes, i.e. candy, pencils, IWAKO erasers.
