Objectives: 

The student will know 2 facts about the history of Judaism

Preparations:

1. Prepare the presentation/video.

2.  Set up the Scavenger Hunt by positioning the clues in the locations (this maybe done by using locations in the classroom instead)

3. Make sufficient copies to the 10 Commandments and Leviticus worksheets

Method

1. Opening Gassho

2. Ask what is Judaism? What do you know about it?

3. Hand out the worksheet. Ask students to fill out as you present.

4. Present the presentation

5. Do  the  "10 Commandments Worksheet"

6. Do the  "Leviticus Worksheet"

7. Introduce the Scavenger Hunt

   1. Form teams if desired. 

   2. First sheet is in the classroom. Solving it will reveal the location of the next sheet. Goto the location, get the next sheet and return to classroom.

Following are the noted about the Judaism Challenge 2 Scavenger Hunt

Judaism is  a religion, law and philosophy/logic. Therefore, the Scavenger is hunt is divided into those sections.

Logic

1. Solve 3 riddles

   1. Classroom

      1. Question: "Has many kinds of letters but is not a mail room or a post office. Has many spines, but is not a doctor’s office. Where am I?"

      2. Hints: 

         1. Different kind of letter; not the one that you mail

         2. "A, B, C..."

         3. Different kind of spine; not the one in your back

      3. Answer: Library

   2. Library

      1. Question: "What dust comes from the earth, is fed with dust from the earth, pours like water, and faces towards the walls of houses? (from Sefer Shoftim)"

      2. Hints:

         1. Dust = material

         2. "Pours like water" but not very fast

         3. Used on roads

         4. Starts with the letters "AS"

      3. Answer: Asphalt (Parking Lot Sign)

   3. Parking Lot Sign

      1. Question: "You are asleep. The doorbell rings and your friends are there for breakfast. You are planning on serving them: Eggs, Sausages, Toast with Coffee. What do you open first?"

      2. Hint:

         1. It's not eggs, sausages, toast or coffee

         2. It's not your front door

         3. Remember you are asleep at first. What's closed?

      3. Answer: Your eyes

10 Commandments (from Exodus Ch 19)

Thou shalt have no other gods before me

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy

Honour thy father and thy mother

Thou shalt not kill

Thou shalt not commit adultery

Thou shalt not steal

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour

Thou shalt not covet (my neighbor’s possessions, wife)

Religion

What should the Aaron(and therefore all priests) wear for making the sacrifice?

What should he do with his garments afterwards?

What should they not do on the seventh month? Which day?

What occurs on that day?
