Adopt-a-Reverend
Status: SUBMITTED
Grade Level: 5,6,7,8,HS
Keywords: BCA, Remote
Objective:
Student will know 3 facts about another reverend/minister
Student will know 1 fact about another temple.
Our goal is to foster some connection between the high school student esp. a senior and another temple so that they will feel more comfortable going to another temple. This is a multi Sunday lesson.
Materials:
Interview Form : This may be online.
Preparation:
(Optional) Print out list of BCA temples with addresses and email contacts.
Method:
Ask students about what location that they might be after they graduate from High School. For example to go to college. If they are undecided, choose any city that they are curious about.
Each student finds out what is the closest BCA temple.
Decide on what to ask the minister about the temple. This might be a discussion among the students. Alternatively, you can do a poll among the students to decide what are the core questions. Students may choose additional questions.
Each student should visit their minister's temple's website. Try to determine:
Physical Address
Email Address
When was it founded
Number of members
Have the student email the minister of that temple.
The student should identify who they are and why they are contacting the minister
The email should contain the key questions
Ask if the minister would mind having the interview over the web conferencing
Have the student conduct the interview and write answers to the questions
On next Sunday, each student presents the minister that they answered, the temple and the answers to their questions.
Discussion about what they learned and felt.
Evaluation:
Student presents facts about the minister and the temple
Note:
Can be easily done in a webconferencing session. Use a shared document system (such as Google Drive) to assist the discussion on questions. You can use PollEverywhere for that as well.
