My new Fog/Driving light setup is amazing. These are super bright lights! This could because they are advertised as headlights Hi/Lo beam projectors. I am not using the high beam switch capability, just the low beam. Now my lighting setup meets several themes now. HID Theme! Projector Lighting Theme! Carbon Fiber Theme! Early 2000s Theme! and most important theme Fast and Furious style. With the Carbon Fiber fog light bezels/mounts this project came out around $245, but if you use the OE bezels/mounts it would of been around $130. I have the projector beam high set low so I can keep them on all the time without blinding oncoming drivers. This project was worth the upgrade and had fun doing it.
projectors fog lights and low beam headlights
low beam headlights only
Normal ride height
Front raised and rear lowed ride height.
Trying out the ebay 2.5 H1 HID Projector headlights. Headlights in fog light housing which make them more like driving lights. Super bright. They are based off of the older designs projectors based off of the ACME Super H1 HID Projectors. They fit flush up with the housing so no need to modify the housing.
RetroFit Source is usually the go to. Good Info on the Products details. https://www.theretrofitsource.com/bi-xenon-acme-super-h1-B-PR180?quantity=1
For the Ballast I went with the ACME speedystart 2.0 from the retrofit source. Strongly Recommend you get name brand on Ballast.
Retrofit source does not offer the dark blues HID bulbs so I went with ebay and found some from HIDLIGHTING168. They will directly plug up with ACME Ballast. no mods needed.
I used Aluminum Tap on my original fog lights from 2006 as a "temporary" fitment and you can see how long temporary is. They held up for over a decade just fine. So I am "temporary" mounting the projectors to the CF bezel with the same tape. Comparison old versus new in the Photos.
I used the H1 mount that came in the kit. Feels cheep but, works.
Old vs. New setup look.
First plan was to have to factory fog light circuit power the HID, but FAIL. With it plugged into the OE fog light circuit the HID's would not stay on. They would flicker on and off rapidly over and over. This is because there was an significant voltage drop in the circuit. High resistance also.
Relay Circuit - I used one 40amp rated accessory relay to power both HIDs. The drivers side fog light circuit is used to switch the relay on and off. This allows me to still use the OE fog light switch in the car to turn them on and off.
I changed out the ground connectors to the ring style
Using a 25amp ATC fuse for power wire.(powers both HIDs)
I had to re-adjust the fog and headlight 7 times. I wanted them lower than the low beam height.
