n "SKY HIGH CAR AUDIO 1/0 GAUGE OFC", the "OFC" stands for:
Oxygen-Free Copper
This means the wire is made from high-purity copper with very low oxygen content (typically less than 0.001%). It’s considered higher quality than CCA (Copper-Clad Aluminum), which is a cheaper alternative.
Lower resistance – better conductivity
Less heat buildup
More durable and flexible
Higher power handling
resistant to corrosion.
Better Than OFC? Yes, in corrosive or marine environments.
Why: It’s OFC wire with a thin layer of tin on the copper strands, which improves corrosion resistance significantly.
Cons: More expensive than standard copper-clad aluminum (CCA).
For 25 foot of wire it weighs in at almost at 11 lbs.!
Why a fuse? As you can see from Fig 1 the main fuse is 100 amp and it goes directly to the alternator by two black wires. The fuse is normally with 3 feet or less of the battery. Since the Alternator will be increased from 90 to 220 amps I will be upgrading the fuse to a 250 amp.
The Wire runs from the trunk down the drivers door sill up to under the dash and out through the firewall. From the firewall to this Distribution Block mounted on my fuse box under the hood.
I relocated my Battery in 2005 to make more room under the hood for my first nitrous setup which I changed later. I used 4AWG Wire for the cars electricals. The smaller 8AWG is for my stereo, air ride and electrical accessories.
The power Cable was cut to fit stereo wire and the ground cable was pre-made cable with terminals. The Top post battery terminal accommodates for two 4 AWG and two 8 AWG wires.
Optima was popular in the early 2000's so I will keep using this style battery for appeal. Upgraded to the Billet mount to match my air ride tank.
1st Setup I used a universal battery mount that was plastic for about 10 years. When I started my air ride I upgraded to the aluminum mount.
Again I moved my battery at first for my old nitrous setup. The ZEX controller needed to mount close to the filter.
