The GReddy Aluminum Pulley Kit 13542101 designed for a Mazda RX-7 FD , but installed on a Mazda Mx-6.
My alternator decided to act up, so I had to swap it out. But come on, I can't just stick a boring stock one back in there. So I decided to add a GReddy pulley on it! So how well does it work on my setup? Find out in this video.
From this kit I will only be using the alternator pulley, I am sure there are some other brands where you can just get the alternator pulley, but I wanted a the name brand GReddy for this mod.
Power losses can be minimized by adding GReddy's lightweight, blue anodized Duralumin Pulleys for the alternator, power steering, and water pump. These are attractive and functional kits that work great on tuned engines. To enhance acceleration and throttle response, while minimizing power losses by allowing the engine to rev up quicker
An under-drive pulley can cause battery drain at idle - due to slower speed.
One of my biggest concerns before Installing this pulley setup was whether the voltage drop would occur causing an under charge condition around low RPM. Since my Mazda is built for show with a lot of aftermarket electronic accessories, I had a theory that I would have to drive at a higher RPM just to keep the voltage up.
With just two of my main electrical accessories on, the voltage drops to about 12.2 volts (still charging)
This was not just because this was an underdrive pulley, but because I had two underdrive pulleys? Stay Tuned.
2022 or 2023 trying out lightweight pulleys for the new build.
"overall alternator output or charging at engine idle, maybe a larger pulley may cause this problem
"Spinning your Alternator faster will increase brush and bearing wear. Using a smaller pulley on a high revving engines can cause component failure from extreme speeds" Pro is that a larger one may prolong the life

I originally tried using an Unorthodox racing pulley for a Honda. I loved the look of this pulley, however, the fit was not quite perfect. It fits on the pulley shaft perfectly, but it rubs against the alternator housing. The GReddy pulley has an additional groove in the back, which is the same setup as the original equipment (O.E.) one. This additional groove allows for a better fit and reduces the rubbing against the alternator housing.
Since 2005, I have been running an underdrive crank pulley on my setup. The combination of pulleys used optimize performance but may of not been design to work together. (To much underdrive = voltage drop)
One of the main purposes of the aluminum pulley is to be lightweight. According to the comparison of weight, you can easily see the difference. The stock pulley weighs 7.4 oz, while the GReddy pulley weighs only 3 oz. The lightweight design of the aluminum pulley makes it a better choice if you are into shedding weight for performance.
7.4 oz
3 oz
For the combination of pulleys. Total weight lost is ((23.2 -75 )= 51.8oz + (7.4- 3) = 4.4 oz ) = 56.2 oz ( 3.5125 lbs)
