K3 - This week our class has been making observations about what we can see in our blue sky. The students found a "sliver" of the moon, some clouds, the sun, an airplane, a helicopter, and birds. On Friday, we predicted what might happen when we add blue watercolors to water. Then, we used the final product to paint our own blue sky. After going on a few flower hunts during recess, students used magnifying lenses to look closely at the flowers they found. We also talked about, and investigated, different bird nests I have found around our school and at home. Students noticed that each nest was made from something different; such as stuffing, plastic, paper, sticks, and mud.
K4 - This week, in 4K, our class was learning about the letter s and the sound the letter s makes. One word that starts with s is skyscraper. We watched a fun video about how skyscrapers are made. Then, students used different materials in class like Legos, blocks, and unifix cubes to build skyscrapers.
K5 -This week in Science students are learning about everyday pushes and pulls. They have a basic understanding that a force is a push or a pull. Forces put things in motion - like a swing or a bicycle. Students cut and pasted examples of pushes and pulls. They have also been introduced to the Engineering Design Process ( Ask, Explore, and Model, Evaluate, Explain). The "Ask" - How can our story friends move the big rocks to make room for the new swing set?
We will be using this process throughout the year.
In Math, students have finished Topic 1 - Numbers 0-5. Next is comparing numbers 0-5.
1st & 2nd Grade - We just finished up learning about bridges and building them. Now we are switching gear to learn about airplanes, how they fly and how we can make them out of paper. Understanding that paper weight, size and shapes make the flight difficult or easy.
