3K - After adding a new student to our class, the rest of the class helped teach our Healthy Habits of exercising, washing our hands, and the safe spaces we stay in throughout the day. This week, thanks to Home and School's generosity, our class has some new builders and manipulatives to work with. Students designed different train track formations, built fun houses out of rock blocks, learned to open and close new buckles, created a "cityscape" out of nesting blocks, and used their imagination to build "The Nativity" out of Trio blocks. To support early math skills, students now have a busy hands fine motor kit for learning shapes, colors, and patterns. As the week warmed up, we were able to investigate the snow outside using our 5 senses. We even brought some of it back into our classroom to oberve using a magnifying lens.
4K- This week in 4K we wrapped up our unit about animals. We had fun learning about groundhogs and how they gnaw on sticks to help their teeth because their teeth are always growing. We also made a prediction if Phil the groundhog would see his shadow and counted our votes. Our class was 10 votes early spring and 9 votes six more weeks of winter. We also read the story How To Catch a Groundhog and talked about all the ideas the kids tried in the story. The class also drew pictures of ideas for the kids in the story to try.
5K- This week in Math, students have learned to count, read, and write numbers to 20. They can count forward from any number to 20. They can count to find how many objects in different arrangements. They can reason to find more than one answer to a problem by counting. Next week we will gain understanding by composing and decomposing numbers 11-19.
1st & 2nd Grade- This week in STEM we explored the groundhog/woodchuck. After watching Punxsutawney Phil forecast they stated six more weeks of winter. The student learned about the burrows the groundhogs lived in and what they are doing during the winter months. Students then took information and created their own book about groundhogs. They will end the week by creating their own burrow for the groundhogs.
