3K 3K - This week 3K completed our PLTW unit of floating and sinking. We started our week by creating our very own ocean environment. Each student started with clean tap water. Then we discussed how to make it look like ocean water? The answer was to add some blue food coloring and mix it into our water. Next, we added a little bit of salt, because we learned that our oceans are filled with salt water which helps things to float. I was reminded that it will also make us sick if we drink it :) Each student then added some small rocks which sank to the bottom. The next step in our experiment was adding things that pollute our beautiful oceans; such as cork, plastic bags, and oil. All 3 of these items floated along the top of our oceans. We tried adding colors to the oil before adding it into our ocean, so some of the class' water turned black. Students learned that it is much easier to pick our garbage up before it reaches the water. They observed that the oil is very hard to clean up once it is in the water. During Centers, students had the opportunity to be a part of the "clean-up" when we added Dawn dishsoap and mixed it in. They were able to observe how the soap actually pushed the oil to the sides of our buckets. Other students just had fun making bubbles:)
4K 4K finished the school year enjoying each other and working as a team. We love investigating the playground and even the baseball diamond for bugs. Coding our Vex robot to make squares. We had a lot of fun school activities this week! We had beach day, bubbles, sports and school colors day! Thanks for a memorable school year!
5K This week in Math K5 identified and classified shapes. We watched and discussed a Mystery Science video "Can animals get a sunburn?. We had a great time with bubbles on Tuesday.
