3K - This week our class learned that each person has a fingerprint different from everyone else. We used these fingerprints to create unique cards welcoming Archbishop Grob to Wisconsin, while sharing the news that "Jesus is in you, and Jesus is in me!". During our "Snow Day" each student designed a snowflake out of marshmallows and toothpicks. Everyone was also given the chance to observe what happens when colored water is added to snow. During the end of Catholic Schools Week, our class reviewed all of the ways that they care for themselves to grow up healthy and strong, just as God wants them to be.
4K - This week 4k added color to their salt shapes to see how the color absorbs into the salt. They also tried to use color on the dry glue shapes to see if the color absorbs into the glue. We also continued our unit on plants and talked about the four basic needs of plants.
5K - This week students learned about snowflakes! They learned that snow begins with a speck (dirt, ash, salt, pollen, or bacteria). Some specks can end up in clouds. When a speck is cold enough, water vapor will stick to it, then more vapor, and eventually a six-sided ice crystal will form, and keep growing.... and a beautiful snowflake is born!!! The kiddos drew and made snowflakes, built igloos, watched as snow (a solid) melted, and painted snow. They noticed that solid snow took up more space than the liquid. They also observed that there were tiny specks at the bottom of the melted snow. Ask them how to catch a snowflake to observe it, why snow looks white, and why no snowflakes are alike.
1st grade - In first grade we started a new unit in science. We will be investigating how light and sound work. We learned a bit of how light and sound can be important resources in our lives. We discussed what we already know about light and sound and what we want to learn.
