3K - This week we renewed our focus on the Healthy Habit (PLTW) of washing our hands and covering our coughs, so that we could remain healthy for the holidays and not become "Sick Simon" who we read about earlier in the season. Our class also began talking about all of the things we see during the holidays thanks to having healthy eyes. We even learned that some of us need to wear glasses to help see those things a little bit clearer. On Wednesday, our class went adventuring into the untouched snow before it melted. Thanks to our really cold weather, the students had fun "walking" on top of the frozen snow before falling through to the ground below. They also discovered that they could pull the top layer off in pieces, or icicles as some called them, big enough to build and play with.
4K- This week 4K learned how polar bears walk so well on ice and snow. They have bumpy paw pads that help them not fall. The class also learned that polar bears have two layers of fur to stay warm and seals have blubber that helps them stay warm. Students also put polar bear puzzles in numerical order.
5K- We read "Rosie Revere, Engineer" yesterday in preparation for the "Pushes and Pulls" Science project. Today, we got into groups to begin discussions and share our ideas on how to solve the problem. We will be working in these small groups for a week or so after break. We will draw, design, test, and possibly change our model. Then, we will present and inform our classmates about our design.
In Math, we continue to hone our addition and subtraction skills - numbers 1-10.
1st & 2nd Grade- This week we explored more about boats and how they float. We discussed if our designs were successful or not and how we could make our ideas better. Using a rubric to grade ourselves and gain a better understanding of how we can become better scholars.
