We had a wonderful first Catholic Schools Week at St. Sebastian STEM Academy! I hope you enjoyed the daily updates and pictures on Dojo as we celebrated our parish, community, students, Nation, vocations, faculty, staff, volunteers, and families. I am extremely blessed to be a part of this school and to have the opportunity to grow in knowledge and faith with our staff and students every single day. Our School Choice window is now open! Please pay attention to your email for more information on this and enrollment for next school year. The sooner you complete this the better. The window closes on February 20th.

Parent Teacher Conferences are February 15th from 3-7pm. These conferences are not mandatory unless you hear from your student's teacher separately, but it is still a great opportunity to update you on your student's progress. Sign up for conferences here. If this date and/or time does not work for you please reach out to your child's teacher to set up a conference at a different time.

February 18th-24th is Engineers Week and is one of the largest STEM events of the year! We are looking for anyone who has a job in engineering to come in and speak to our students and/or lead them in an engineering activity. Pics of the Week
Our student of the week this week is Kennedy from our 3K classroom! She has been a kind friend to everyone, is working hard on her daily activities, and is starting to find her voice in the classroom. We are so blessed to have her as a part of our St. Sebastian STEM Academy family.
3K Along with all of our Catholic School Week fun, 3K used shapes to create "Thanks Yous" for our community Fire and Police departments. We worked on patterning when we created beaded hearts using red and white beads, while also improving our fine motor skills. We used our emerging writing and listening skills as we followed directions to color in our nation's flag. On Friday we tried to find our shadows, just like the groundhog did.
4K This week our 4k class participated in Catholic Schools Week activities. For our snow day we participated in Pyramid/ Bowling, Play-dough, Rainbow Snow, Snow Stories / Library, Pin the Nose on the Snowman, Toothpick Build, Penguin Relay, and Snowman Toss. We had so much fun! In addition 4k finalized their poster projects and picked their animals this week. We can't wait to begin the design process and to start building their animal homes.
5K This week K5 began working on Subtraction and we were Weather Detectives.
We are looking for empty egg cartons. If you have any, could you please send to school with you child.Thank you!
Home and School
Home and School met Monday, January 8th. Here are the minutes of our meeting. Our next meeting will be on Monday, February 12th, 6:00pm at School. Please consider joining us.
We will be holding our Valentine's Day celebrations on Tuesday, February 13th, since the 14th is Ash Wednesday. Your child's teacher will reach out with their classroom's plan.
Snowy Weather Rules
Please send your student with extra shoes or boots on snowy days. Students will need snow gear (snowpants, boots, hat, jacket, gloves) to play in the snow but there will be no playing on ice, building tunnels, or climbing hills. All students will go out for recess and if they do not have the proper attire they will stay in the shoveled areas. No one will stay inside unless they have a doctor's note. We will stay in for extreme cold, wind, and/or rain.

Growing your knowledge
Our churches have some great ways to learn more about your faith. If you are looking for something new to grow in your faith life, contact Eric Antrim to learn about the many learning opportunities St. Lucy and St. Sebastian's churches have to grow.
In order to volunteer in our building or at any school events you need to have a background check and have completed the Safe Environment Training. If you were unable to make the September 13th date there are many options available online in our area. If you do not remember if you have had this training in the past please reach out to me and I can look you up in our system. Please share this with anyone you know that is interested in volunteering at the school. I highly recommend doing this if you plan on being involved in any school events.

Once logged in, complete the curriculum called "Initial Training for Clergy, Volunteers and Employees"
Complete the curriculum and RSVP for an in person training session (if you do not see the St. Sebastian option yet it will be posted within the next week, other Siena school options will be available too)
Once class is complete the background check will run and once that is back and clear, you will be certified and can start volunteering.
