We had another great week at St. Sebastian STEM Academy complete with Ms. Lori coming back to school! We had our accreditation visit this week and our students, faculty, staff, parents, and parishioners did a great job showcasing all of the wonderful things happening at our school. Thank you to everyone for the hard work and time put into this process.
Our students learned about Holy Week at mass this week. As we look ahead to next week, our students will be watching the Living Stations of the Cross put on by St. Lucy's 4th grade class. These students will be traveling to St. Sebastian on Wednesday to share this with our students. We will not have mass on Thursday morning but instead will join together as a school to share in a pancake breakfast. Our Easter Egg hunt will be right after school on Thursday. Please join us! See more information below. Remember there is no school next Friday followed by Spring Break.

We will be having our 1st annual Easter Egg Hunt on Thursday, March 28th @ 2:25pm right after school. Please bring your own basket or bag for your child to collect eggs in. Also, please send boots, we will be in the grassy area behind the school.

Pi Day Penny Wars started the week ofThursday, March 14th. Click here for our flyer with more information. All proceeds will go to our playground fundraiser. Thank you for all of the donations so far!
Our student of the week this week is Leo from our 5K classroom! Leo has been a great friend in the classroom, in the lunchroom, and on the playground. He has been very polite to his teachers and especially to our visitors this week. We are so blessed to have him as part of our St. Sebastian STEM Academy family.
3K This week 3K went in search of 3 leaf clovers popping up around our school. We then used the magnifying glasses in our classroom to get a closer look at the leaves. Students also had the chance to observe one of our fall pumpkins, using their senses of sight and touch, to see how it has changed over the winter months. 3K celebrated the first day of spring by discussing, and acting out, the many types of weather they may experience in the upcoming months. Weather patterning was a skill we revisited, with the help of Clifford the Big Red Dog and a pair of scissors:)
4K In 4K PLTW we are playing games with directionality and coding. For example we played in Suzi's backyard. The students moved trees and bushes around the picture of Suzi's backyard based on the directions their partner gave them using their directional vocabulary. We also played a game of hide and seek using their directional vocabulary. We did a few shamrock science activities as well using skittles and salt to learn about evaporation. We questioned, predicted, tested, and observed.
5K In Math this week K5 did Lucky Charms sorting, graphing, and adding. We also were looking for the missing part of 10. In Science we watched and discussed the Mystery Science video, "How many kinds of cacti are there?. In Our PLTW unit, Sunlight and Weather, we have been recording the daily weather and exploring weather activities on the app, "PBS Kids Play and Learn Science". We also used microscopes with Mrs. McCauley.
In order to volunteer in our building or at any school events you need to have a background check and have completed the Safe Environment Training. We will be offering a class at St. Sebastian's STEM Academy on Tuesday, April 9th at 2:45 - 5:45pm. If you were unable to make the April 9th date there are many options available online in our area. If you do not remember if you have had this training in the past please reach out to me and I can look you up in our system. Please share this with anyone you know that is interested in volunteering at the school. I highly recommend doing this if you plan on being involved in any school events.

Complete the curriculum and RSVP for an in person training session (if you do not see the St. Sebastian option yet it will be posted within the next week, other Siena school options will be available too)
Once class is complete the background check will run and once that is back and clear, you will be certified and can start volunteering.
Home and School met Monday, March 4th. Our next meeting will be on Monday, April 8th at 6:00pm at School. We are working on a lot of fun things to do this spring. Please consider joining us!
St. Sebastian's STEM Academy will be in this years Memorial Day Parade in Sturtevant. The parade is on May 25th at 8:00am - More information to come.
A&W Restaurant
Tuesday at A&W was a great time. It was great seeing so many St. Sebastian's families.
