YEAR 11 Design and Visual Communication
Aims
To teach learners skills that provide a sound foundation in the principles of architectural, product and graphic design.
Course Content
Learners are introduced to a design thinking process in order to develop ideas to solve real world problems for product and spatial design contexts. Learners are introduced to a range of visual communication techniques including freehand and instrumental drawing, model making and CAD software in order to demonstrate their designs’ fitness for purpose.
Skills
Through studying Design and Visual Communication, learners are challenged to be innovative, creative, and to show initiative. Learners are encouraged to think deeply about their designs’ application and consider the requirements of their designs’ construction with visual communication.
Assessment
In class assessments, school examinations.
This course may include 1 NCEA standard, either an internal or an external. To be confirmed at the beginning of the 2024 school year.
