NCEA Level 2 Pure Mathematics
Aim
This course is intended for learners who have maintained a high level of achievement in Year 11 Mathematics and wish to continue mathematics with an algebra and graphing focus. This course allows learners to continue on to NCEA Level 3 Calculus or NCEA Level 3 Statistics and Modelling.
Course content
Manipulating algebraic expressions and solving equations
Sketching and interpreting non-linear graphs
Finding and using straightforward derivatives and integrals
Applying probability methods
Introduction to normal distribution
Solving practical trigonometry problems
Assessment
There are a variety of assessment tasks and school examinations. Externally assessed topics are examined nationally at the end of the year.
Qualification gained
Full course completion - 20 credits in NCEA Level 2 Mathematics
