NCEA Level 2 Media Studies
Aims
This course aims to offer the learner practical experience in producing mass media content, as well as a theoretical, critical and appreciative understanding of the mass media as they encounter it.
Content
A study of the key conventions of a film genre
An investigation of representations in the media
A study of media narrative
Pitching, pre-producing, and producing a music video
Assessment
There are a variety of internal assessment tasks and one paper in the external school examinations. Externally assessed topics are examined nationally at the end of the year.
Qualification gained
NCEA Media Studies Level 2 - full course completion a maximum of 21 credits
Prior knowledge required
A reasonable level of achievement across Year 11, particularly in Literacy, in order to cope with the level of analysis expected, as there is written work involved in the assessment tasks.
Exceptional circumstances for entry may be considered on an individual basis after consultation with the HoD and the Year Level Dean.
