Aims
This course aims to offer the learner a critical, practical and appreciative study of the mass media as they encounter it.
Content
A study of the relationship between a film genre and society
An investigation of representations in the media
Writing a media text
Pitching, pre-producing, and producing a short film or magazine feature article
Assessment
There are a variety of internal assessment tasks and one school examination. Externally assessed topics are examined nationally at the end of the year.
Qualification gained
NCEA Media Studies Level 3 - full course completion a maximum of 20 credits.
Prior knowledge required
Note: This course requires learners to have literacy skills equivalent to NCEA Level 2 English, in order to cope with the level of analysis expected, as there is a large component of written work involved in the assessment tasks.

Resources - software licence for media production, bond for hire of equipment. (This bond is refundable when gear is safely returned in the same condition. )
