NCEA Level 2 History
Aims
To help learners understand how historical forces and movements have influenced the causes and consequences of events of significance to New Zealand. Also, to understand how people’s interpretation of events that are important to New Zealanders differ.
Course Content
NCEA Level 2 History focuses on some of the major forces shaping our modern world. Topics have been selected to provide a range of geographic and historic perspectives incorporating different events, personalities and cultures. Topics will be selected from the following:
Vietnam and the Conflict in Indochina 1945 – 1975 (including NZ's Role)
The search for security in the Nuclear Age 1945 – Present (Cold War)
Protest Movements in New Zealand (Research)
Terrorism - Gunpowder Plot, Irish Conflict, 9/11
Pacific War (World War II) - including NZ's Involvement,
Assessment
There are a variety of assessment tasks and school examinations. Externally assessed topics are examined nationally at the end of the year.
Qualification Gained
Full course completion — 23 credits available in NCEA History Level 2

Geography, English
Prior knowledge required
Year 11 History and/or
A reasonable level of achievement across Year 11, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy.
Exceptional circumstances may be considered on an individual basis after consultation with the HoD and the Year Level Dean.
