NCEA Level 3 Drama

Aims

Students will enhance their ability to relate with a range of cultures by developing ideas; working collaboratively, directing and accepting direction. By gaining significant experience performing, students will develop strong practical knowledge and confidence in their physical and vocal communication skills. Students will observe a variety of professional theatre to gain a sound understanding of Dance and Drama in context. 

Content 

Drama Techniques - research, analyse and integrate elements, techniques, conventions, and technologies in dramatic forms for specific purposes 

Devising work - research, critically evaluate and refine ideas to create original drama work 

Performance - analyse, rehearse and perform works in a range of dramatic forms, assuming a variety of artistic or technical responsibilities, reflect on and critically evaluate a wide range of works and performances 

Research - research, analyse and critically evaluate how drama, including New Zealand drama, interprets, records, or challenges social and cultural discourse 

Assessment 

This course is comprised of a variety of internal and external standards (listed below). Performances range in scale - with at least one evening performance (involving a technical and dress rehearsal outside of class time). A brief portfolio is collated to support the process of the performances. The examination will require learners to reflect on a live performance they have seen in 2023.

Qualification gained 

Full course completion – 18 credits in NCEA Drama

NCEA Level 2 Drama or NCEA Level 2 Dance or equivalent

Comfortable mufti is essential to move freely in this class - Active wear/thermals and gym shoes/canvas/jazz shoes are necessary course equipment. 

A visual diary, a computer and a memory stick are useful tools in this learning environment.
