Title: Only Ugly On The Outside
WidthxHeight: 22"x16.5"
Why: For this project, we had to follow our question. Mine was "how can we turn something ugly into something beautiful?" So I thought of monsters. Some monsters are super ugly, such as in horror movies. I wanted to make him look sweet. I also made him hang out at a witches out and it turns out that she's super sweet as well. (Witches are considered to be ugly.) So I tried to make them look scary but also super sweet.
What: The subject of my work is a monster hanging out with a witch. The drawing was made with Oil Paint Sticks. I wanted to try something a little more complicated. But I also struggled with the time I had. The hardest part about this was finishing it because I had to leave out some details in order to get it in on time. I wanted the walls to be plain so it wouldn't distract from everything else, but I also wasn't a fan of a white background, so I tried to make it look yellow-ish. I was going for a cartoon piece. I'm happy with the outcome of the monster.
How: I used color, form, texture and space in this piece. I made sure to separate the colors as best as I could. Wanted to try a different style of shading. The fun part was blending the yellows, oranges and browns. I went for something that was more of my style.
