Loneliness

The subject of my work is a lonely person, going through water. The setting is the ocean, and in the background, you can see an island, and from the island, there are waves. The work was made with paper and glue. I chose to create this because I've been feeling really lonely recently. The work is arranged starting from a poster board, and using the blue colors, I created the ocean. Using other darker colors, I created the boat and the island. I used shape, color, form, texture and space. I used pattern a lot.

I wanted to have a person in a cave, and create that "bumpy" effect, with the (what are now) waves, as the cave. I wanted to have the cave going completely around the base, where there is only 1 corner where you can view what the inside looks like. I didn't have enough, so I just changed my idea but still kept the idea of being lonely.

The meaning behind it is how lonely I feel. I feel like i'm lost at sea, and the waves that are going to go on top of me, makes me feel like i'm going to die alone. I really wanted to make this bigger, but oh well.

Memories

The subject of my work is a Zombie Cat. The setting is a grave. The work was made with needle felting (wool) and paper. I chose to create this because I wanted to needle felt something for this class, I wanted to make my cats, but I didn't have the right colors at the time. So I made a Zombie cat because I had green. The work is arranged from paper, from wool to felting. I used shape, color, form, texture and space in the piece.

I wanted to felt my cats, but I didn't have the correct colors. I didn't have enough, so I just changed my idea but still kept the idea of a cat.

The meaning behind this is my cat from years ago who passed away from fip disease. Sometimes I imagine my cat decaying, so I guess you could say I vented it onto this piece? (But I'm fine, don't worry haha.) I have a very crazy mind, and I usually throw my thoughts and feelings into my work.

It's A Seal Now Lol

The subject of my work is a very very fat Walrus. I wanted to play around with making him look like a blob, and very chunky, haha. The work was made with clay. I chose to create this because I thought it would be fun to make a Walrus. The work is arranged from clay, to scratching, to glazing. I used shape, color, form, texture and space in the piece.

I wanted to do an axolotl, because those are so cute, but it seemed way too difficult for me. I ended up doing a walrus because those are fat and blobby, so if I messed up the shape, it would just look like a fat blob. :)

There is absolutely 0 meaning behind this piece... I just think walruses are cute. Though, with the scratched out parts, you could say there's a story behind that. I like space and galaxy's a lot (hence my google background). I tried to slide a Bob Ross thing into this, by making trees on the tail.

We're Trying

The subject of my work is hands. The work was made with plaster. I chose to create this because a friend of mine has been struggling through a lot of mental problems and depression, and I want them to know that I'm always there for them. I used shape, color, form, texture and space in the piece.

I was originally going to have this be about endangered species, where it was a tiger, and the scars were going to be the tigers stripes. However, my friend has been in dire need, and I changed my idea for them. I ended up making this about suicide and depression. I'm not really proud about how the colors came out... But I still think the message is shown really well.

The meaning behind this piece is to show that someone is always there for you, whether you think it or not, and there is always someone who cares about you. You're not alone. I was going to leave out the text saying "it's ok", but people could have thought this was someone encouraging suicide. And that is not what I wanted to show. Though people think about art in many different ways, I want to show that people do care, and for once make one of my "depressing" art pieces meaningful, instead of just being sad.

How To (Not) Be Original

The subject of my work is a penguin... I think. The work was made with cardboard and some random stuff I found in the back. I chose to create this because I love character design. I don't like how it looks very childish. I used shape, color, form, texture and space in the piece.

I was originally going to have this be a devil penguin, however that didn't work out well so I made an angel. I'm not really proud about how it looks very childish. I don't know how to explain this, but it looks like a child made it. It just looks so stiff and very straight and the anatomy isn't the best. But I still like the white designs.

There is no story or meaning behind this. I just enjoy designing characters.

Shakey Shakey

The subject of my work is a snake in a turtle shell. The work was made with paper. I started out with forming newspaper, adding colored paper and then adding things like bells and beads. I chose to create this because I love character design. I don't like how it looks very messy. I used shape, color, form, texture and space in the piece.

I was originally going to have the snake be curled up in a ball or have it so you can see his eyes in the shell as he's hiding. I'm not really proud about the anatomy. It just looks so stiff and very straight and the anatomy isn't the best. But I still like how adorable it is.

There is no story or meaning behind this... Though, I guess you could say it's me when I'm sleeping, haha.

Garfunkle and Odey

The subject of my work is Garfield and Odie as caterpillars. Honestly, no idea where this idea came from. Friend of mine wanted me to make Garfield, so I combined Garfield with another animal to stick to my concentration- a caterpillar. The work was made with wool, aka needle felting. I started out with making a ball for a head and slowly adding details to it. Then I made a long body and added feet and stripes to it including a tail.I then made Odie because I had extra time to kill. I chose to create this because I love character design. This is my favorite concentration so far. I used shape, color, form, texture and space in the piece.

I was originally going to just have Garfunkle, but then I made Odie and I'm happy I did. Odie adds a whole new meaning to the piece, it looks like they care about each other. One thing I dislike is how Garfunkle looks like a long cat, it's hard to tell he's a caterpillar. But I still like how adorable it is.

The only thing I have to say about this piece is that it's Henry's fault, haha.

Doey

The subject of my work is a kangaroo/deer. I was googling ideas for inspiration and found a picture of a kangaroo holding a teddy bear and I thought "yup this is happening". The work was made with sculpy. I started out by drawing sketches for each body part and how big I wanted them to be. I chose to create this because I love character design. This is now my favorite concentration. I used shape, color, form, texture and space in the piece.

I was originally going to have the deer holding the teddy bear, but it turned out to be a little Vulpes (fox) in the pouch. I didn't have time to make a whole teddy bear and do that. One thing I dislike is the base. I don't like the grass and how it's laid out as paper, and the base is a little wonky. If I had time, I would go back and color over the tape to make the base look nicer.

Gerold

The subject of my work is Gerold, he's a cat mixed with a cloud (hence the cloud around his neck). I wanted to do something I really enjoy, so I made one of my original characters into a plushie. The work was made with fabric from Walmart and paper for the paper airplane. I started out by drawing sketches for each body part and how big I wanted them to be, and the size and positions. I chose to create this because I love character design. This isn't my best work, considering I was rushed to get it done.. I used shape, color, form, texture and space in the piece.

I was originally going to have the red blend into the blue on his belly, but I ran out of time. I didn't have time to fix the parts that looked wonky and make it look smooth. One thing I dislike is how messy it looks. If I had time, I would fix the blending in the belly and make him more stable and able to sit down.

Overall, I believe I learned more about myself than my actual creations. I use art and building as a coping mechanism. Art has always been my go-to. I wish I could have had more time to put detail into things and make sure they were neat and smooth. A lot of these I was rushed due to the little amount of time I had, and there was no way I could have had more time due to job and life.

I really wish I had a more happy theme. I think I put way too much of myself into these pieces. Usually that's a good thing, but it's not really a good thing when it's really sad stuff haha.

One thing I learned about myself is that I love to design. I love to mix colors in ways that others wouldn't expect (like yellow paw pads instead of pink), and I love to use creatures/characters that already existed and turn them into my own original creation.
