Hand

The subject of my work is hands. The work was made with plaster. I chose to create this because a friend of mine has been struggling through a lot of mental problems and depression, and I want them to know that I'm always there for them. I used shape, color, form, texture and space in the piece.

I was originally going to have this be about endangered species, where it was a tiger, and the scars were going to be the tigers stripes. However, my friend has been in dire need, and I changed my idea for them. I ended up making this about suicide and depression. I'm not really proud about how the colors came out... But I still think the message is shown really well.

The meaning behind this piece is to show that someone is always there for you, whether you think it or not, and there is always someone who cares about you. You're not alone. I was going to leave out the text saying "it's ok", but people could have thought this was someone encouraging suicide. And that is not what I wanted to show. Though people think about art in many different ways, I want to show that people do care, and for once make one of my "depressing" art pieces meaningful, instead of just being sad.
