Title: Lovable Larva
HeightxWidth: 8inx11in
Why: For this project, we had to follow our question. Mine was "how can we turn something ugly into something beautiful?" So, when I think of ugly, I think of larva. I don't exactly know why, but the thought of little bugs just creeps me out. So, I made a piece that involved an ugly caterpillar and an ugly tadpole. Both are larva stages of something beautiful (frog and butterfly). So I made them fall in love, obviously!
What: The subject of my work is a caterpillar and tadpole. The drawing was made with oil pastels. I really hate working with pastels because they're so messy and nothing ever blends how I want it to. But, I wanted to give it another chance. I used pastel for the entire piece. The hardest part about this was trying to blend the grass but also not blend them together (aka making it harder to see the grass). I was going for a realistic piece for once! I'm happy with the outcome of the leaves/water.
How: I used color, form, texture and space in this piece. I made sure to blend the colors as best as I could while also showing the reflection of the sun. The fun part was blending the water and normally I don't find joy in that. I went for something that was more of my style.
