Mental disorders and fears portrayed as creatures
The subject of my work is a a creature. The creature is supposed to represent anxiety. The drawing was made with colored pencil. I chose to create this because I wanted to create something that was personal to me. The creature is supposed to represent the barrier between your feelings and the outside world. I get afraid of letting my feelings out because I'm anxious to know what would happen if I spoke too much about myself. Anxiety covers the gateway of my anxiety. The hardest part about this was the fur. I haven't studied how to draw fur yet, but it came out better than I expected it to. I was going for a cartoony drawing. I used color, form, texture and space in this piece.
I was originally going to leave the outside with no background, but it felt empty to me. So I added a wood texture around the doorway and it gave the piece a whole new feeling.
The meaning behind this piece is how anxiety blocks your emotions toward the outside world, because you're anxious to let them out. However... People think about art in many different ways. Anyone can take this anyway they want to.
The subject of my work is a depressed creature. The creature is supposed to represent depression. The drawing was made with sharpie and fine-point pen. I chose to create this because I wanted to create something that was personal to me. The creature is supposed to represent how depression pulls away from any ability to feel happiness. Or at least, it is extremely difficult. Even when the happiness is right in front of your face, you can't feel it and it's gone. It's like the happiness fades through you and you can't even tell. The hardest part about this was deciding on a background. My friend liked it as a blue blank background but I tried to at least put some sort of snow. I don't know, for texture? I was going for a cartoony drawing. I used color, form, texture and space in this piece.
I was originally going to make the creature black but I felt like that would have been too easy. Depression is always portrayed as some droopy, sad, black monster when I see it. But I tried to make it dark colors. Black would have been easy.
The meaning behind this piece is how depression makes happiness fade away. However... People think about art in many different ways. Anyone can take this anyway they want to.
The subject of my work is a person who suffers from schizophrenia. The creature is supposed to represent schizophrenia itself, and his tail wraps around the mirror to show multiple different delusions. The drawing was made with sharpie, charcoal, pastels and fine-point pen. I had no idea what to do for the background. The hardest part about this was deciding on a background. I decided to leave it blank because the cardboard created a cool texture. I was going for a cartoony and realistic drawing. I used color, form, texture and space in this piece.
I was originally going to make the creature colorful but I felt like that would have been looked weird. But I tried to make it dark colors.
The meaning behind this piece is how schizophrenia causes delusions and hallucinations. However... People think about art in many different ways. Anyone can take this anyway they want to.
The subject of my work is a pug. The creature is supposed to represent a person with identity disorder, how the pug thinks he's really a cat. I got really tired of drawing sad things, so I tried to portray him as something cute but have a dark meaning behind it. The drawing was made with sharpie, charcoal, pastels, colored pencil and fine-point pen. I had no idea what to do for the background. The hardest part about this was deciding on a background. I decided to create a background with half cat-related colors/objects and half dog related colors/objects. I was going for a cartoony and realistic drawing. I used color, form, texture and space in this piece.
I was originally going to make the background match more with the pugs palette. But I ended up just making the background pop anyway.
The meaning behind this piece is how people who suffer from identify disorder do not know who they really are. However... People think about art in many different ways. Anyone can take this anyway they want to.
The subject of my work is a wolf and a person. The creature is supposed to represent a person with bipolar disorder, how the wolf and human are combining but are showing completely different emotions. The drawing was made with fine-point pen and pastel. I hated using pastel because it was so messy and I don't think I'm going to use it again. I had no idea what to do for the background. The hardest part about this was deciding on a background. I decided to create a background with random colors and blending it to make more colors than just red and blue. I was going for a cartoony and realistic drawing. I used color, form, texture and space in this piece.
I was originally going to make the background with stripes. But I ended up just making the background pop anyway.
The meaning behind this piece is how people who suffer from bipolar disorder feel different kinds of emotions. However... People think about art in many different ways. Anyone can take this anyway they want to.
The subject of my work is a deer creature. The creature is supposed to represent a person with selective mutism. The drawing was made with fine-point pen and colored pencil. I don't like how the colored pencil came out. I played with the background but I can never seem to get them right. The hardest part about this was deciding on a background. I decided to create a background with a galaxy and something related to the mouth. I was going for a cartoony and realistic drawing. I used color, form, texture and space in this piece.
I was originally going to make the background brighter. But I ended up just making the background pop anyway.
The meaning behind this piece is how people who suffer from selective mutism freeze and don't speak like deer when they see headlights. However... People think about art in many different ways. Anyone can take this anyway they want to.
