Scholastics #1

Title: This Is A Joke Now, Isn't It?

WidthxHeight: 8"x11"

For this project, we had to create something for scholastics. I decided to work with editorial cartoons because there's a lot I want to say. That being said, this piece was inspired off of the Ice Caps melting. I made this a "circus" theme because at this point, I haven't seen anything done about this and the climate continues to become worse every day. It's like a joke at this point. All of those animals have to deal with us and fear humanity. Once the Ice Caps melt, the circus will come. People will continue to live their lives like it never happened, all because it's not important to them -- hence, it's a joke.

The subject of my work is a polar bears, seals, reindeer, penguin, birds, and wolves. The piece was made with fine-point pen and colored pencil. The polar bear (being the "biggest" of the group, is balancing on melting ice as all the other animals cling on.

I used color, form, texture and space in this piece. I really like the way the polar bear on the bottom came out and the sign on the top. I don't really enjoy a few colors I used on some of the animals (like the penguin), but I guess that it works because I tried to make it look like a circus. I'm iffy about this piece but it did come out decent when you compare it to the time I had to work on it.
