Value Drawings

For the first assignment, the top picture, we had to make two value scales. The first value scale (top) was supposed to be blended as seamlessly as possible from dark to light values. The second value scale was again from dark to light values, but this time each inch section had to be noticeably different from the ones around it. I used a pencil and a tortillion. I went back with the tortillion a lot to make sure the values were blended.

For the second assignment, the third picture, we had to recreate the picture to the left of it. For the self portrait, I used multiple different pencils, a tortillion, and water color paint. To revise, I went back and used a tortilllon to blend out my hair and make sure the shading on my face was even and accurate. I also used an eraser on my hair to make the highlights and I used it on my face to create the highlights there. I am proudest of the eyebrows and my nose because I have always struggled with drawing those features but I think that they came out great and proportional. I struggled with the eyes a little because I wasn't sure how to locate them and how to draw eyelashes accurately. If I could go back and revise something, I would tilt my left eye down a little because I think it is angled up a little too much.
