Color Theory

For this assignment, we were supposed to create two color value scales, one using a primary color, and the other using a secondary color. For my scales, I chose to use red and orange because I thought they complemented each other nicely. To create this project, I made a one-inch border around the canvas, then made two eight inch by 4.5 inch rectangles. Then, I divided each rectangle into ten equal sections. Each section was painted by a tint or shade of that specific color, starting with tints and moving down into the true color, then into the shades. I used acrylic paints, a small square paintbrush, and a paint mixer and palette to create this piece. I think I did a good job on keeping my artwork very neat because I went back when I was done and carved out the rectangles with white acrylic paint. I think I could have improved by doing more even coats because the blocks of color were sort of patchy on some of the shades.

For this assignment, we were asked to be creative and make a unique painting that incorporated 84 colors. We had to mix all of these colors using the primary colors, blue, red, and yellow, and then make tints and shades using black and white. I used acrylic paints for this project. For my project specifically, I sketched out a cluster of balloons and filled them in each with a different color on the color wheel. When I was done with the balloons, I made a new color, an extremely light teal, and painted the background with that color. This was inspired by the movie UP. If I was to go back and change anything about this piece, I would do more coats on the sheer colors because I don't like how they don't match the rest of the colors, but, I am proud of how the end result came out because it is pretty neat.
