Sustained Investigation XII

Eyes on me

6 in x 4 in

Watercolor & pen on bristol

For this assignment, we were asked to create a twelfth work for our sustained investigation. For this piece, my idea was to combine two mediums to create a portrait that conveys schizophrenia and multiple personality disorder. I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone by taking more of a design approach to my art.

To make this piece, I started by painting a watercolor portrait of my friend (from a lower perspective). From there, I made the random red line design with sharpie pen as a border around the portrait. I cut out the eye area of the portrait and taped a different piece of bristol behind it. On that piece of paper, I drew a variety of unrealistic eyes, symbolizing schizophrenia and multiple personality disorder.

Overall, I am very happy with my piece and think it is my most "out there" work of art that I have made. If I could go back and change anything, I would try to integrate the red design and the purple design more with the actual portrait.
