Macro Leaf

For this assignment, we were asked to create a piece of art that was of a zoomed in part of nature. We went outside and collected leaves and flowers and taped them to a piece of paper. I chose this flower because I liked the range of color and thought it would be fun to recreate it with acrylic paint. I started with a piece of canvas and made an inch border. I mixed blue with a lot of white and a tiny bit of red to make the background color. I lightly traced the shape of the flower with graphite and made many shades of yellow, brown, and green to paint the flowers, leaves, and stem. I added a little bit of white in some places to add a reflection to the flowers and leaf. Overall, I am pretty happy with this piece. It's not my favorite, as I am not a big fan of acrylic paint, but I am proud I stepped out of my comfort zone with it. If I could go back and change something about my piece, I would zoom in a little more than I did and add more detail to show the pattern of the flower instead of the overall shape.
