For this assignment, we were asked to create a sculpture of of our choice that had to be made of a minimum of 5 pinch pots. I decided to make a cactus sculpture because I thought that it would be an easy way to fit in all the spheres while also making something that represented my art style. To start, I made 8 pinch pots of all different sizes and scratch/scored them and made three spheres, a pinch pot base and a small pinch pot for the flower on top. Once they were dry enough, I attached them in the position I desired, as you can see in the picture, making sure they all had a hole that connected them to the base so it wouldn't explode in the kiln. Next, I made small balls and attached them to one of the spheres, and made small small cones and attached them to another one of the spheres. I then painted underglaze of all different shades of green on all the spheres and the base. I used a carving tool to make designs on the last sphere and the pinch pot base. Once the underglaze layers were fired, the last thing I did before firing was painting red-orange underglaze on the flower pinch pot. After the bisk fire, I used the glazes PC 29, PC 41, PC 49, and the clear glaze.
