Time Capsule Drawings

Time Capsules (zoom, despise, future)

3 in x 2 in

Colored pencil & pen

For this assignment, we were asked to create three time capsules drawings, and being a senior, I was able to choose three out of the six prompts. I chose to to the zoom portrait, the object I despise, and the object that represents my future. I chose to do a zoom portrait of my finger, with a focus on my green ring, because I wanted to draw not only my body, but an object that I always am wearing, like its almost a part of my body. I chose my alarm clock because it is simply an object that I despise. Lastly, I chose to draw my favorite pair of earrings to represent my future because eventually, I would love to have my own jewelry company, since I love making jewelry.

For each time capsule, I start with the same size pieces of paper and created a thin border with a fine black pen. I sketched out all three objects with pencil, then did an outline with thin black pen. Following that, I used colored pencil to add color to the works. I chose to not use the colored pencils to shade or add value, but rather just a wash of color. I used light scratching marks with the pens to add contrast, value, and texture.

My project evolved many times, as I did two self-portraits prior to the zoom portrait. I didn't like the originals, and I started to get frustrated, so I chose a smaller size of paper so it wasn't as overwhelming. I think my next steps will be improving my skills with colored pencils to have more blended color and less texture.
