Watercolor & pen
For this assignment, we were asked to create a fifth piece for our sustained investigation. For this project, I wanted to play with perspective and continue my theme of portraits. The viewer can see from this work that the perspective is from the inside of a pill bottle, and there is a woman reaching in to grab pills. The message behind this piece was the everyday reality of those who struggle with mental illness.
To make this project, used reference photos to do the perspective accurately, and sketched them out on watercolor paper. I used watercolor paint and pen to create the composition.
The photograph is my second draft of this project, as the first one didn't come out as I wanted it to. So I tried different watercolor techniques so the final project came out how I wanted it to. My second piece had more unity because I extended the pill bottle around the entire page, and it had more value.
My next steps could be making a third draft, and maybe using a different material, like acrylic paint, to make the portrait stand out.
