Donate Life Design

For this assignment, out task was to create a piece of art to submit to the Donate Life Maine Competition. The work had to fit under the criteria of the competition, meeting the size requirements and including the phrase "Organ and Tissue Donation" somewhere on the artwork.

I decided to take an impressionist approach and make the subject of my piece a bouquet of flowers, specifically a bouquet that could be found at a funeral or memorial service. I used acrylic paint with short, choppy brushstrokes and used a wide variety of colors and tones. I wanted to include bleeding heart flowers because it went along with my catch phrase. After my painting was finished, I used magazine cutouts to spell out my phrase, which was "Have a good heart? Consider organ and tissue donation."

I am very happy with my work, I think my use of color and line was very strong and I was proud that it came out well, as i have never tried an impressionist style before. If I could go back and change something about my piece, I would use a different material to write out my phrase, because I don't think it is very clear and easy to read.
